It was hard for Sargent Piers to accept the way the military had changed in the last year. He thought it was a joke at first; he couldn’t believe that these new laws and ordinances could be real. He hadn’t been racist; it just didn’t make any sense to him why only black men would be able to serve as decorated soldiers from then on.
Piers had his titles and two medals stripped from him, but instead of being let free of the armed services, he learned the military had a new role for him to fill.
